What Has Changed With The Mounjaro Price In The UK?
One of the more popular weight loss injections in the UK, Mounjaro, has recently been subject to a price increase, but what does this mean for you?
On the 14th August 2025, Eli Lilly, the manufacturer of Mounjaro, announced an increase in their list price. This is the price your healthcare provider would purchase the medicine at and is the baseline from which reimbursement and commercial terms are calculated.
Mounjaro UK List Price Changes – Effective September 2025
Strength (mg) | Current List Price | New List Price | Change (£) | Change (%) |
---|---|---|---|---|
2.5 | £92 | £133 | +£41 | +44.6% |
5 | £92 | £180 | +£88 | +95.7% |
7.5 & 10 | £107 | £255 | +£148 | +138.3% |
12.5 & 15 | £122 | £330 | +£208 | +170.5% |
Higher-dose Mounjaro pens will see the largest increases, with the top tier rising by over £200.
Patients obtaining Mounjaro privately are more exposed to this price increase, as they would pay a price inclusive of the list price but also additional fees, such as for clinical consultations or delivery. This can vary between providers.
NHS patients remain unaffected. The NHS secures the drug at a previously negotiated price under a separate agreement with Lilly, ensuring consistent access and affordability.
Here at Quick Meds, we understand that price changes can be confusing. This is why we offer:
-
Fully transparent pricing - there are no hidden fees.
-
Patient-focused clarity - clear, honest communication about any upcoming changes, so you're never caught by surprise.
Why are Mounjaro Prices Going Up?
So why the sudden change? Eli Lilly has stated the UK list price for Mounjaro will increase to address inconsistencies with other developed countries, particularly Europe. When Mounjaro was launched in the UK, the price was intentionally set significantly below average in European countries to allow greater NHS patient access.
However, with changes in the healthcare environment and emerging clinical evidence supporting its value, Eli Lilly is standardising the price globally.
This decision has also been pushed as a result of political pressure, where US President Donald Trump raised concerns about the high price of the drugs in the US. Eli Lilly has agreed with President Trump that costs should be shared more fairly.
This change applies to the list price of Mounjaro only and not to its formulation or quality. No changes have been made to the manufacturing process, and all Mounjaro pens still contain the same drug - Tirzepatide.
At Quick Meds, we continuously review our pricing strategy to ensure it remains fair, clear and supportive of patient care - whilst responsibly balancing rising supplier costs.
Mounjaro Vs Wegovy: Key Differences That Matter To Patients

Active Ingredients and How They Work
Mounjaro contains the active ingredient Tirzepatide. It is a unique product on the market which activates two receptors, GLP-1 and GIP and is manufactured by the company Eli Lilly. This helps slow down digestion, keeping you feeling fuller, quicker, and for longer, while also reducing appetite. Its GIP component will simultaneously increase insulin sensitivity, reducing the amount of sugar produced by the liver - contributing to efficient energy expenditure and weight management.
Wegovy is another weight loss medication, but unlike Mounjaro, it only activates the GLP-1 pathway. Containing the active ingredient semaglutide, Wegovy has been approved for weight management since 2021. Research shows it is an effective solution to help patients in their journey to obtain a healthy weight.
In the UK, both Mounjaro and Wegovy are prescription-only medicines. They are only available following an online consultation with a qualified prescriber. This ensures the treatment is safe and appropriate for your health needs.
Evidence On Average Weight Loss And Heart Health
Clinical trials showed patients taking Mounjaro led to a weight reduction of 15%, 19.5% and 21% with the 5mg, 10mg and 15mg doses, respectively, over 72 weeks.
With Wegovy, patients reported a mean loss of approximately 15% at the maximum dose of 2.4mg compared to placebo. Whilst this is lower than the weight loss shown with the maximum dose of Mounjaro, Wegovy is also approved for cardiovascular risk reduction, and research shows semaglutide reduced CV risk by 20%, when compared to placebo.
Whilst the trial results can set an expectation, individual results can vary. Ultimately, how much weight you lose on the medication depends on how tightly you adhere to lifestyle adjustments. The importance of an evidence-based diet, physical activity and sleep hygiene can directly influence your success.
Our pharmacists here at Quick Meds are optimally placed to provide clear guidance on dosing, side effects, lifestyle adjustments and setting realistic outcomes tailored to your individual health profile.
Dosing And Titration
Both Wegovy and Mounjaro are once-weekly injections, self-administered under the skin. For Wegovy, the initiating dose is 0.25mg for the first month, increasing through 0.5mg, 1mg, 1.7mg every month until you reach a maintenance dose of 2.4mg once weekly.
Some patients opt for a slower titration and remain on the lower doses so long as they are continuing to lose weight safely. Increasing every month will not always translate to quicker weight loss, but may increase the risk of side effects.
Mounjaro is also initiated at the lowest dose of 2.5mg once weekly and increased in increments of 5mg, 7.5mg, 10mg, 12.5mg and 15mg. As opposed to Wegovy, the 5mg, 10mg and 15mg doses are all licensed as maintenance doses. Once again, patients do not have to increase every month, and our pharmacists will always recommend maintaining at the lowest, most effective dose for as long as possible.
At Quick Meds, we work alongside patients at every step in their journey. We can offer advice on dosage and suggest an appropriate time in your individual journey to adjust your dose.
New Wegovy 7.2 mg Dose Coming Soon
Recently, Novo Nordisk, the manufacturer of Wegovy, has submitted an application for approval of a newer dose of 7.2mg once weekly. If approved, this would add to the existing range in the UK and is intended for those individuals established on 2.4mg who have plateaued and require additional weight loss support.
Clinical trials show over 72 weeks, the 7.2mg dose achieved an average of 21% weight loss (the same as 15mg Mounjaro) with a similar safety profile to the 2.4mg dose. Whilst not yet available, once approved, this will be offered to those patients already established on the 2.4mg dose, again on prescription only.
Quick Meds is committed to notifying eligible patients promptly as soon as the newer dose becomes available. Our pharmacists will work closely with you, reviewing your treatment progress and goals to determine if the increased dose is safe and clinically appropriate for your individual needs.

Should You Switch From Mounjaro To Wegovy?
Whilst both medications have proven benefits, the decision to switch from Mounjaro to Wegovy is a personal one, which we here at Quick Meds are committed to helping you with.
For patients obtaining the treatment privately, price will be an important factor to consider. As Mounjaro is a dual-action therapy, it may seem like patients may be taking 'a step backwards', but it is important to note that Wegovy is still an effective, clinically proven treatment for weight loss. It has shown measurable benefits when used in accordance with healthy lifestyle adjustments.
Other factors to consider include how well you tolerate either of the treatments. Some patients have found Wegovy leads to a lower incidence of gastric side effects, though this is not true for everyone.
If your progress has stalled, changing therapy may be the boost your body needs to kick-start weight loss again.
As Wegovy is now approved for cardiovascular risk reduction, patients who have heart disease may benefit from using Wegovy over Mounjaro.
All factors considered, it may be better to stay on your current therapy if you are achieving steady weight loss or if there is no clinical need to change.
Our team at Quick Meds can review your treatment options, considering cost, clinical evidence and your personal health goals and history. We will provide clear, unbiased advice to allow you to make an informed decision about whether to stay on your current medication or switch.
How To Switch Safely Without Losing Progress
The One-Week Washout (Why Timing Matters)
It is important to work with your prescriber when switching between products. Many prescribers recommend a 7-day interval between your last Mounjaro dose and your first Wegovy dose, in line with each medicine's dose schedule and elimination time.
If you miss a dose during the changeover, skip this dose and take the next dose on your next scheduled day. Do not double up a dose.
Our clinicians will take your individual circumstances into account and offer tailored advice to help you plan a smooth transition.
Picking The Right Starting Dose Of Wegovy
The clinicians at Quick Meds will work with you to ensure the safest dose of Wegovy is prescribed for you. Often, when switching between drugs of a similar type, your clinician may opt to start you at the initiation dose (0.25mg) or a slightly higher one, such as 0.5mg. This is all individualised and personalised to you as our patient, with safety as the priority.
Side Effect Check-List And Self-Care Tips
Side effects are common when titrating back up on another medication. This includes nausea, bloating, diarrhoea, or constipation, and can generally be managed at home by ensuring you eat smaller portions, chew food thoroughly, avoid fatty/spicy/carb-heavy foods, and ensure you remain hydrated.
If you were to experience more severe side effects, such as ongoing vomiting, severe abdominal pain or a yellowing of the eyes or skin, this could indicate pancreatitis, a medical emergency requiring immediate hospitalisation. This is rare, and our clinicians will work with you to ensure your titration remains a smooth one.
Ensure you keep a track of your current appetite, any side effects you have experienced whilst on your current treatment, and log your weight. This is all relevant information your prescriber can use in your transition over to your new treatment.
Monitoring Blood Sugar And Other Medicines
Whilst here at Quick Meds, we do not supply weight loss treatment to type-2 diabetics, if you are diabetic and on treatment, it is important to do extra glucose checks. Part of how Mounjaro works is by affecting insulin sensitivity, so the change in treatment may affect your glucose levels.
As both Mounjaro and Wegovy delay gastric emptying, this can affect some oral medications, including oral contraception. Ensure to discuss all other medications you take with your prescriber to ensure your journey remains safe and effective.
Cost, Access And Safe Buying
The Mounjaro price increase is an increase in the list price. This is the price set by the manufacturer for the product itself and does not account for pharmacy markup, packaging and delivery.
To ensure you are cost-effectively obtaining your medication, ensure you only purchase from a GPhC-regulated provider and avoid unverified online sellers to prevent obtaining counterfeit medicines. Quick Meds is a fully GPhC registered pharmacy, obtaining supplies of all medication either directly from the manufacturer or via MHRA-approved wholesalers.
Healthy Lifestyle That Supports Results
Whilst on a GLP-1 medicine, lifestyle adjustments can directly impact your progress and success rate. Opt for foods high in protein and fibre but low in carbohydrates. Ensure you eat smaller meals only up to the point of fullness. Exercise is also important, as regular physical activity elevates the heart rate significantly, contributing to a reduction in body weight.
Other factors that can help include behavioural strategies, such as planning balanced snacks instead of reaching for unhealthy options, and using smaller plates to manage appetite signals.
Feel free to speak to our clinicians for tailored lifestyle advice, which can help maximise your results in your weight loss journey.
Summary
From 1st September 2025, the UK list price of Mounjaro will rise in line with other countries, followed by a review from Eli Lilly, the manufacturer. This change affects private patients more than NHS patients, as private providers set their own retail prices.
If you are currently using Mounjaro, this may be a good time to review your treatment options, whether you choose to continue, adjust your dose, or consider alternatives such as Wegovy, unaffected by the price rise and also an effective obesity treatment.
