Tips for a Smooth Experience

To keep your pen working perfectly for all 4 doses, follow these golden rules:

  • Prime Once Only: Only perform the "flow check" (priming) when you start a brand new pen. Over-priming every week will waste medicine, and you won’t have enough left for your 4th dose.
  • Store with Care: Keep your pen in its original box to protect it from light and dust. Avoid carrying it loose in a bag where debris can jam the mechanism.
  • Needle Safety: Always attach a new needle before dialing your dose.
    • Never reuse needles; this causes blockages, contamination, and painful injections.
    • Remove the needle immediately after your injection to prevent medicine from leaking out.
  • Handle Gently: Never force the dose knob. If it feels stuck, there is usually a simple reason (like a blocked needle).

Solving Common Pen Problems

The dose knob is hard to push down

  • The Cause: Often a blocked or bent needle, or debris in the button.
  • The Fix:
    • Wipe the pen and blow away any visible dust.
    • Remove the old needle and attach a new needle straight on, firmly.
    • Turn the dose knob back to '0' and press gently to release any built-up pressure.
    • Perform a flow check (prime) to ensure the needle is clear.
    • When injecting, press the button slowly - hold for 10 seconds until the counter returns to '0'.

The dose knob won't turn or feels jammed

  • The Cause: The pen may have internal pressure or the needle isn't attached correctly.
  • The Fix:
    • Slowly turn the knob back to '0' using light pressure.
    • Check that your needle is screwed on straight and the inner needle isn't bent.
    • If it still won't turn, try a fresh needle and a quick flow check.

No drop of liquid appears during the flow check (Priming)

  • The Fix:
    • Ensure the needle is screwed on tight.
    • Try a new needle - the one you are using may be defective or blocked.
    • You can repeat the flow check up to two times. If no drop appears after the second try, do not use the pen.

I can't dial my last (4th) dose

  • If you have used 4 doses: The pen is empty. It is normal for a tiny amount of liquid to remain in the reservoir that cannot be dialed; this is an intentional safety feature. Dispose of the pen safely.
  • If you have doses left but it won't dial: Replace the needle with a new one, perform a flow check, and try again. Ensure you aren't trying to dial past the remaining medicine in the pen.

The rubber seal at the tip is bulging or broken

  • The Cause: This usually happens if you try to dial or press the pen without a needle attached, or if the needle is badly bent.
  • The Fix:
    • Slight bulge: Attach a new needle, turn the dose to '0', and press the button gently to "reset" the pressure.
    • Severely broken or seal popping out: Do not use the pen. Contact us at Quick Meds.

Medicine is leaking during the injection

  • The Cause: The needle may be loose, or you may have pulled the pen away from your skin too quickly.
  • The Fix:
    • Ensure the needle is screwed on straight and tight.
    • Make sure to hold the pen against your skin for a full 10 seconds after the dose counter hits '0'.
    • Note: If you lose a significant amount of liquid, keep a record of it so you can order your next pen in time.

I see air bubbles in the pen

  • Don't panic: Small air bubbles are perfectly normal and safe. Because this is a subcutaneous injection (under the skin) and not into a vein, a tiny bubble will not harm you.
  • The Fix: Keep the pen upright, tap it gently to move the bubbles to the top, and ensure you perform your flow check correctly before your next dose.
